Dark and unattractive, old crowns can make you feel self-conscious when you smile. Traditional metallic crowns can leave teeth and gum lines discolored.
Thanks to the development of stronger porcelain materials and advancements in technology, Dr. Kern can create beautiful, tooth-colored crowns in her office. Dr. Kern has completed post-doctoral training to use CEREC, a machine that makes custom crowns for patients in a single appointment.
CEREC ceramic crowns are placed on teeth that require restoration as a result of decay or trauma. CEREC crowns are often used to replace old restorations made of metal and mercury.
When preparing a tooth for a crown, Dr. Kern sculpts the top of the tooth. Once the tooth’s surface is prepared Dr. Kern makes an impression of the tooth, inputting the information into her CEREC computer. She then uses the CEREC machine to custom create a crown, inlay or onlay to fit the tooth precisely.
CEREC crowns, inlays and onlays blend with the natural color of teeth and eliminate the discoloration that the metallic solutions of yesterday created.
